Something may be wrong with me. When I lodge in a hotel, I would like to stay in a room with:
- windows that I can open
- air conditioning that I can switch off
- a shower with a curtain or wall so the water does not go everywhere
- a detacheable shower head
- a shower tap that gives me control over both volume and temperature (some US hotel showers have only one control: temperature! They usually spout out two or three times as much water as I need, not environmentally friendly)
- a room key that also serves to enable the electricity so that I don't forget to switch off the lights
- but yet some sockets that remain powered, so that I can leave something to recharge while I'm out of the room
- at least one socket for my use, not every single one plugged up with TVs and such stuff
- reasonable table space, not cluttered with all sorts of advertising, which I have to move out of the way and room service then dutifully puts back every day
- a socket that's near or above the table space, so that I can use my laptop conveniently
- free wireless internet (it costs less than the maintenance fees of the elevators and they are free)
- easy access to the stairs
- a 24 hour clock
- a simple wake-up service that consists of typing an unambiguous four-digit number into the telephone (at least one system decided to wake me up the following day instead of the same afternoon, presumably an am/pm mistake, or, worse, an "intelligent" medding by a clerk)
I do not need a fitness centre, I walk the stairs if I'm not higher up than the fourth (counting from 0 not 1). I've been in one place where the fitness centre and the minibar were free but the internet was 13€ per day.
There must be something wrong with me. Sigh.
