The Jura mountains late December 2004.  The white line going up the mountain side is the clearing of a ski lift.  The green bushes on the otherwise leafless trees are mistletoe, a common tree parasite in this region.

Find the little red dot at the bottom of the picture, make a straight line up:  it will touch the Jura skyline at the Jura's highest spot:  1800m (the photo is taken from about 440m)

Mont Blanc as viewed from almost the same spot as the Jura photos.  It is 75km away as the crow flies, about 90km by road to Chamonix at its base.  Geneva is not really visible, it lies in the depression that can be seen between the two houses, but well before the misty valley:

Just yesterday (28 December) snow fell. Note there are still roses on the rosebushes!

And here is the Mont Blanc as seen from our garden. 75km away, 4880m high (we are at 440m altitude)

And finally another view, along the little road just north of the airport:.  But this was in late spring, the rapeseed (colza) is flowering.

The fields are in France, the buildings are in Switzerland, but the mountains behind them are all in France again.
