Digital, not analog |
Almost everything in Lego has knobs to match one piece to another. This means matching cannot occur at any position, but has to be at a knob. This is much like digital stuff works: you can only go in multiples of a smallest increment. In some other construction sets there are fewer restrictions of this kind. Only on axles can you really position components at any place you like. So Lego is digital, not analog. It's like a huge pixel bitmap, not like an analog photo (e.g. contemplate Lego sculptures). Provided you have enough small bricks and you build a large enough model, this is not too much of a challenge. Building small models can be difficult. I try to make compact things, but I certainly do not pretend to be an expert, and my work can no doubt be improved upon.
