Squares (4)

So it did not work properly at startup?

Some old versions of Revolution on some platforms do not send the StartUp message to programs when you are in program development mode.  In that case a standalone program must be created, and that's what we will do now.

Making a Standalone Program

Open the Squares.rev file.
Make sure the select tool is selected, not the browse tool.

Select File—>Build Distribution

Now, I just hope that this menu is implemented in the version you have.  If not, then skip the rest.  Making standalone programs is not very important for the tutorials.

But if the Build Distribution menu item is there, a panel like thiss will appear:

You will of course have to check the box corresponding to your platform.
There are three more steps in this panel, in which you can set some details, but that's not necessary now.  You can click the Build Distribution button immediately.

Revolution asks you where to save the standalone program.  On Mac OS X the standalone will be called Squares.app.

You will now have a real program, that is totally independent of Revolution.  You could even make a special icon for it.

When you double-click that program, it will properly clear the fields before showing its window.

The program you just made is real, it's yours and you can give it away to friends. Or sell it.
